In this 50-minute presentation, we will take a look back at the birth of Mediation and its evolution as a modern conflict resolution tactic – its origins and place in modern-day society.
We will also cover three popular styles, Facilitative, Evaluative, and Transformative, and take a deeper look at the ins and outs of each, which type of dispute they fit the best, and when/why you might want to adopt each approach. We’ll then discuss specific Florida Mediation Rules and various Sanctions that have been dispensed.

Mediation History, Styles & Ethics: Varying Approaches to Conflict Resolution and an Ethics Review
Very good class. My only criticism is that I would like to see slides with notes so that the listener doesn’t have to spend so much time stopping the recording to write notes and can listen instead. Also, the resources should be listed on a slide so that those who are listening to the recorded presentation can also have access to the materials.

MEDIATION HISTORY, STYELS AND ETHICS
VERY INFOMRATIVE ON THE DIFFERENT STYLES OF MEDIATION AND HOW TRANSFORMATIVE MEDIATION IS BEING USED MORE AND MORE TODAY THAN THE TRADITIONAL FACILITATIVE
Mediations History, Styles & Ethics Recorded
I really enjoyed this course. It explained to me personally why when I joined a group of mediators in a different state than where I was trained, I was not in sync with their style. Now I know why. I was trained in and using facilitative style for 10 years and they were more transformative. It opened my eyes of why I was not syncing, and the funny thing is that this group did not realize themselves that there were other styles of mediation. I like the idea suggested by Guno to use a style depending on the type of case you have.

Good information
Insightful and Informative discussion on Mediation History, Styles & Ethics
This presentation is very helpful for a clear understanding of different Mediation approaches. Details and examples are offered about Facilitative (problem solving, common interests, direct approach); Evaluative (experts review and explain facts to the parties); and Transformative (opportunity for growth, transforming as human beings for a better relationship, empowerment, recognition, validation). Also, great information regarding the origins of mediation and ethical issues to consider.

Exceeded expectations
Got several useful ideas from this well-organized and well presented course. The discussion of the three major styles was unusually clear. I valued the contrasts provided between transformative vs facilitative and evaluative styles. There was a useful discussion of the difficulty of providing adequate time in court ordered mediation, especially County mediation. All too often the mediator cannot give adequate time to support the parties’ right of self determination. Certainly a mediator is not going to have time for any transformative mediation. The participant discussed a community based program in her area to try to fill that gap.
All in all, this was one of the most useful online courses I have taken. I should note I took the video version as I had missed the “live” session.
