Short Course Description

This course provides a foundational understanding of Microsoft Excel, empowering participants to create, edit, and format spreadsheets with confidence. Designed for true beginners, this course covers the essential skills required to organize data, perform basic mathematical calculations, and create professional-looking reports. Participants will learn how to navigate the Excel interface, manage rows and columns, apply formatting, and prepare documents for printing. By the end of this course, you will be able to build functional, efficient, and well-organized spreadsheets for personal or professional use.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Navigate the Interface: Identify and use the Ribbon, tabs, formula bar, and worksheet grid to manage workbooks efficiently.
  • Enter & Edit Data: Accurately enter text, numerical data, dates, and times, and use AutoFill to speed up data entry.
  • Manage Rows and Columns: Insert, delete, resize, and hide rows and columns to organize data structure.
  • Format Worksheets: Apply professional formatting, including fonts, colors, borders, and number formats (currency, percentage) to improve readability.
  • Perform Basic Calculations: Formulate simple, accurate formulas and use essential functions (SUM, AVERAGE, MIN, MAX).
  • Manage Workbooks: Create, open, save, and print workbooks, including setting up page margins and headers/footers.
  • Organize Data: Use basic sorting and filtering tools to manage lists of data.

Guno Ritfeld is a retired Department of Defense Commissioned Officer. He has earned a B.A. in Psychology/Education, a Juris Doctorate (J.D.), and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree. He is certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a Circuit Civil, Family, and County mediator and has served as a County mediator at the Orange County courthouse. He served as a member of the City of Orlando Certification Appeals Board and Chapter 57 Discrimination Board, and as a contract Human Rights Mediator and Administrative Investigator for various state and federal agencies. He is an experienced commercial, workplace, and family dispute mediator and arbitrator.
