In this course, students will focus on fundamental functions of human resource management; relationships between personnel management, and organizations’ emerging role of personnel administration in the development of strategic policies for organizations.

- Discuss the legal and procedural considerations involved in hiring, disciplining, and terminatingemployees.
- Appraise the ethical impact of following and enforcing policies, rules, and procedures.
- Compare and contrast various compensation and benefits packages.
- Identify the differences between union and nonunion organizations, and describe the importance ofunion/management relations.
- Discuss current legal and social ramifications of "downsizing" or "right-sizing" an organization.
- Discuss the impact of globalization and diversity on human resource management.
- Explain the process determining, developing and implementing employee training and developmentprograms.
Course Curriculum
Guno Ritfeld is a retired Department of Defense Commissioned Officer. He has earned a B.A. in Psychology/Education, a Juris Doctorate (J.D.), and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree.
He is certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a Circuit Civil, Family, and County mediator and has served as a County mediator at the Orange County courthouse. He served as a member of the City of Orlando Certification Appeals Board and Chapter 57 Discrimination Board, and as a contract Human Rights Mediator and Administrative Investigator for various state and federal agencies. He is an experienced commercial, workplace, and family dispute mediator and arbitrator.
