CC-101 Pre-Bankruptcy Credit Counseling is an interactive, online pre-filing budget and credit counseling program designed for individuals who are considering bankruptcy and need to evaluate their financial circumstances before filing. The course combines structured financial education, personalized financial-analysis activities, realistic decision-making exercises, and interactive scenarios to help learners understand their financial position and prepare for individualized counseling with a qualified credit counselor.
Throughout the program, learners examine their income, household expenses, secured and unsecured debts, assets, financial obligations, and the circumstances that contributed to their current financial condition. Guided exercises help participants develop a realistic monthly budget, identify financial pressure points, evaluate available resources, and consider appropriate alternatives for addressing financial difficulties. The program includes separate scenario pathways for individuals with primarily consumer debt and individuals whose personal financial difficulties involve business or commercial debt.
The course uses an immersive 4D interactive learning environment in which learners engage with recurring characters representing debtors, creditors, financial-service representatives, and counseling professionals. Decisions made during the course affect later scenarios, allowing learners to experience the practical consequences of financial choices. Activities include budget-building exercises, debt-priority analysis, creditor communication scenarios, credit-report review, financial-crisis planning, and development of a personalized financial action plan.
Learners receive instruction concerning alternatives that may be available for addressing financial problems, including budgeting adjustments, communication with creditors, repayment arrangements, debt-management considerations, available financial-assistance resources, and the importance of obtaining appropriate legal advice when legal questions arise. The course is educational in nature and does not recommend whether a learner should file bankruptcy, select a bankruptcy chapter, or provide individualized legal advice.
For Internet-delivered pre-bankruptcy credit counseling, completion of the interactive online portion is not by itself the final counseling step. After completing the required online activities and personalized financial analysis, the learner proceeds to an individualized interaction with a qualified counselor in accordance with the applicable ADR Academy counseling procedure. The counselor reviews the learner’s financial circumstances, discusses the analysis and available alternatives, answers appropriate questions, and completes the required counseling documentation.
The course incorporates identity verification, required disclosures, activity tracking, individualized financial worksheets, interactive knowledge checks, and completion controls. Learners should not enter Social Security numbers, passwords, complete account numbers, or other unnecessary sensitive information into ordinary course activities.
CC-101 is independently developed and delivered by ADR Academy. Course availability does not by itself constitute approval, certification, designation, or endorsement by the U.S. Department of Justice, the United States Trustee Program, or any bankruptcy court. Any representation of U.S. Trustee Program approval and issuance of a bankruptcy credit-counseling certificate must be limited to periods and jurisdictions for which the provider has the required effective authorization.
