$35.00 per 60 days

The Impact of Children in Poverty: Educational, Legal, & Interpersonal Violence Issues by Dr. Mary Bruck Ed.D.

This course addresses the awareness of the issues for children of poverty and homeless children. Homelessness is on the increase in the United States   Being aware of the at-risk nature of these children as well as the interpersonal violence these children can directly or indirectly experience gives mediators a baseline understanding of the needs of the children.  Educational needs as well as social emotional needs are discussed.  Subtitle VII-B of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (42 U.S.C. § 11431 et seq.; hereafter the McKinney-Vento Act), reauthorized in 2015 by Title IX, Part A of Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), ensures educational rights and protections for children and youth experiencing homelessness. The legislation for this ACT is explained and strategies for implementing it in a school district are reviewed.  The course ends with a review of all pertinent facts and efforts to ensure that children of poverty and homelessness are placed in limited risk situations.
