Objectives:

The course objective is to include information on the importance of health, safety, and nutrition as crucial factors in the development of young children. Provides strategies for the monitoring of standards in the care environment and the development of good habits in young children.

  •  Health Services, Facility Design, and Caring for Children with Special Needs


Learning Outcomes:


Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • understand the complex roles that an early childhood educator plays
  • Identify how infections are spread and learn how to minimize them
  • Describe environmental hazards
  • Identify the basic concepts of nutrition and about foods suitable for children
  • Examine strategies you can use to help the children with whom you work to develop healthy eating behaviors the importance of physical activity, oral health, mental health, and health education
  • Identify the importance of continuous care
  • Identify the importance of a daily health check
  • Outline the importance of exclusion of sick children
  • Recall the benefits of inclusion of children that have special needs
  • And identify the signs of child abuse or neglect.
  • Be aware of the environmental threats to children's health and safety and protect children from them
  • List developmentally appropriate toys and materials
  • Explain the elements of sound nutrition and plan menus accordingly
  • Describe the components of a safe child care facility

Instructor: Dr. Sara Hoefler currently engages in private practice for child and adolescent behavior, parent coaching, and life skills coaching. With 25 years of experience in the field, she is an expert in special education. Her years as a principal of a K-12 school serving exclusively special needs students has given her expertise and insight into how to best work with parents to find the most appropriate options for their children socially, academically, and developmentally. She holds current certifications in education (K-12) and brings hands-on experience. Dr. Hoefler also co-authored and organized training events in Special Education meditations for teachers, mediators, and lawyers through the Alternative Dispute Resolution Academy.
